KEEP ME FROM EVIL
Keep me from any evil, that I might not cause any harm, pain or suffering. (1 Ch 4:10, Ps 141:4)
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Ps 139: 23-24) Show me my hidden faults, and keep me from willful sins, that they may not rule over me. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. (Ps 19:12-14)
May I have no other gods before you.
May I not make for myself any idols, or let anything become an idol to me.
May I never misuse the name of the Lord my God.
May I always remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy-By calling the Sabbath a delight
and the Lord’s holy day honorable. Help me to honor the Sabbath by not going my own way or doing as I please or speaking idle words. (Is 58:13)
May I always honor my father and my mother.
Keep me from murder, either by thought or deed.
Keep me from adultery, either by thought or deed.
May I never steal.
May I never give false testimony against my neighbor.
Keep me from coveting anything that belongs to my neighbor. (Exodus 20: 3-17)
Father, help me to live by the Spirit, so I will not gratify the desires of my sinful nature. (Gal 5:16)
Keep me from any:
- Unwholesome Talk, Bitterness, Rage, Anger, Brawling, Slander, Malice (Eph 4:29)
- Sexual Immorality, Impurity, Greed, Obscenity, Foolish Talk, Coarse Joking (Eph 5:3)
- Deceit, Hypocrisy, Envy (1 Pet 2:1)
- Lust, Evil Desires (Col 3:5)
- Debauchery, Idolatry, Witchcraft, Hatred, Discord, Jealousy, Fits of Rage, Selfish Ambition, Dissensions, Factions, Drunkenness, Orgies (Gal 5:19-21)
May I not set before my eyes any vile thing (Ps 101:3), or have anything to do with the evil deeds of darkness. (Eph 5:11) Instead, help me to focus on whatever is:
True, Noble, Right, Pure, Lovely, Admirable, Excellent, and Praiseworthy. (Phil 4:8)
Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord, keep watch over the door of my lips. (Ps 141:3) I pray that I may speak only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Eph 4:29)
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that I receive.
It is in pardoning that I am pardoned.
It is in dying that I am born to eternal life. (St. Francis of Assisi)
