It is good to praise the Lord, proclaiming His love in the morning! Ps 92:1-2
1. WAKING UP WITH GOD Pray this simple prayer when you first wake up to put God in the driver's seat throughout the day: Guide me throughout this day Lord; Guide me every step of the way!
2. PRAISING GOD IN THE MORNING Sometimes I have a hard time getting out of bed, so I asked God to give me a prayer I could use for this purpose. Over the next few days I came across these verses in the Psalms that were exactly what I needed:
It is good to praise the Lord, proclaiming His love in the morning! (Ps 92: 1-2) In the morning you hear us, O Lord; in the morning we offer you our prayer. (Ps 5:3) My heart is ready, O God; I will awake and greet the dawn! I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to You among the nations. For your steadfast love is as high as the heavens; your faithfulness extends to the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens. Let your glory be over all the earth, (Ps 57:8-11) and fill us with the joyful fire of your merciful love in the morning. (Ps 90:14)
3. PRAYER TO TOTALLY RELY ON GOD I found that the Waking Up With God prayer really did help me to wake up and focus on God. As I started praying that prayer every morning, I encountered a prayer called the “Breastplate of St Patrick of Tara,” and decided to put a portion of it into the first person as the next part of my morning prayer, asking God to help me totally rely on Him every moment of the day in everything I do:
This day I call on You my Lord: Your will to be my guide Your eye to be my sight Your Word to be my speech Your hand to be my support Your love to be my strength Your path to be my way
4. PLEDGE TO TRUST, FOLLOW, SERVE I finish my waking prayers with this prayer of total surrender to God that is a short summary of what are to me some of the most important scriptures and Christian concepts to start my day with and carry with me throughout the day:
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, I trust in You; thank you for having mercy on me – a sinner. This is the day you have made Lord, I will rejoice and serve You with thanks and praise; so speak, Lord, for your friend and (brother/sister) is listening and seeking to do your will. Without You I am not worthy; but as you lead me, I will follow, and as you strengthen me and conform me to you, I will serve. Blessed St. Joseph, earthly father and protector of Jesus, pray for me that like you, and Mary, and all the Saints, I might joyfully surrender every waking moment to God my Father, until the glorious moment He calls me home to heaven.
Same prayer with scripture references: Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, I trust in You; (Mt 16:16/Divine Mercy Prayer) thank you for having mercy on me – a sinner. (Jesus Prayer) This is the day you have made Lord, I will rejoice and serve You with thanks and praise; so speak, Lord, for your friend and (brother/sister) is listening and seeking to do your will. (1 Sam 3:10, John 15:15, Luke 8:12) Without You I am not worthy; but as you lead me, I will follow, (John 5:5) and as you strengthen me and conform me to you, I will serve. Blessed St. Joseph, earthly father and protector of Jesus, pray for me that like you, and Mary, and all the Saints, I might joyfully surrender every waking moment to God my Father, until the glorious moment He calls me home to heaven.
